This Spring, A.C. Houghton is participating in 'Our School Reads,' a program designed to invite families to engage more deeply with their student's academic journey.
Over the next eight weeks, our school community will read Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. Families should have received a copy to read and follow along at home as well. Special thanks to all who were in attendance at our Family Literacy night, helping kick off this fun initiative.
At school, students will celebrate each week with trivia questions and other fun surprises in the building. You can support your student at home by reading with them, enjoying weekly tips about how to become a better reader, and engaging in the fun family activities each week. (Week 1 Activity) You can also use SORA to engage with the audiobook version, if needed.
This program was brought to A.C Houghton by the Reading Clinic at Eastern Oregon University. Principal Jill Ledbetter expressed gratitude for these learning opportunities that engage and involve the whole family.
“It is important that our school involve parents and families into their student’s educational journey wherever possible. Support in the form of creative programming and community funding helps make these engagement opportunities possible. We are so grateful to Eastern Oregon University for their dedication to our staff, students, and their families,” she said.

Esta primavera, A.C. Houghton participa en "Nuestra Escuela Lee", un programa diseñado para invitar a las familias a involucrarse más profundamente en el proceso académico de sus hijos.
Durante las próximas ocho semanas, nuestra comunidad escolar leerá "La Telaraña de Carlota" de E.B. White. Las familias deberían haber recibido una copia para leer y seguir la historia en casa. Agradecemos en especial a todos los que asistieron a nuestra Noche de Lectura Familiar, y nos acompañaron en empezar esta iniciativa divertida.
En la escuela, los estudiantes celebrarán cada semana con preguntas de trivia y otras sorpresas en el edificio. Puede apoyar a su hijo en casa leyendo con él/ella, disfrutando de los consejos semanales sobre cómo ser un mejor lector y participando en las divertidas actividades familiares semanales. (Actividades de Semana 1). También puede usar SORA para interactuar con la versión en audiolibro, si es necesario.
Este programa fue presentado en A.C. Houghton por la Clínica de Lectura de la Universidad del Este de Oregón. La directora, Jill Ledbetter, expresó su gratitud por estas oportunidades de aprendizaje que involucran a toda la familia.
“Es importante que nuestra escuela involucre a los padres y familias en el proceso educativo de sus estudiantes siempre que sea posible. El apoyo mediante programas creativos y financiación comunitaria hace posibles estas oportunidades de participación. Estamos muy agradecidos con la Universidad del Este de Oregón por su dedicación a nuestro personal, estudiantes y sus familias”, dijo.
