Sam Boardman Elementary had a great turnout at its Family STEAM night on Thursday, February 19, 2026. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
The school’s foyer, cafeteria, and gymnasium were packed full of activities and experiments for students and their families to enjoy together. Upon arrival, participants were greeted by school staff and given free tickets to enter a raffle with the chance to win a brand-new tablet!
In the cafeteria, tables displayed a variety of STEAM-related activities, like excavating dinosaurs out of model eggs, crafting DIY lava lamps, identifying dinosaur species, observing gem and rock collections, and creating other fun crafts.
In the gymnasium, students had the opportunity to play STEAM Bingo, STEAM-themed Jeopardy, and build their own battery-powered cars and windmills with their family members as staff members stood by to help troubleshoot.
This day was highly regarded by students, staff, and families, too.
“I was so impressed by the creative, hands-on nature of the activities,” shared parent Carmen Mendoza. “My kids loved having the opportunity to explore, create, and learn through engaging experiences."
First grade student Alexia Mendoza shared, “It was so fun, it reminded me of STEAM Fridays!”
STEAM Fridays were introduced by the Morrow County School District as special enrichment days that gave students an additional opportunity to engage with hands-on learning and connect with their peers. Family STEAM Night builds on that same spirit of exploration by bringing students and their families together for an evening of creativity, problem-solving, and fun.
Principal Sarah Christy expressed her appreciation for the strong show of community support, “We are so pleased with the turnout. Nights like this would not be possible without our valued families, generous community sponsors, and the hard work and imagination of our dedicated staff.”
